We’ll put a boot in your ass, it’s the American way…

4th of July weekend is always an exciting time for me. With the combination of beautiful fireworks lighting up the sky to lawn games and frozen beverages, it proves to be one of my favorite times of the year! But I don’t love it nearly as much as my sister does…and this year she wasn’t here to celebrate our Independence. However, I understand she had quite the celebration with Fab and his family in France so I’m happy she was at least able to eat a burger and introduce them to a little bit of our traditions from home.

Anyway, each year my family goes to a friend’s house up on the lake in Cuba.It.is.one.heck.of.a.party. They get sparklers for all of the little kids (and my sister and I :-p) and have an endless supply of great food and beer. Can’t beat it…not to mention the amazing view over the lake and then at night the amazing fireworks. Ahhhh I smile just thinking about some of the memories I have from that party. When my mom called me a few weeks ago to tell me that her and my dad were going to go out of town this year (they went to Cleveland) I gasped at the thought of missing one of the biggest parties of the year! However, I then realized that I had made plans to travel north and spend the weekend with Janelle and Ang and my gasp quickly turned into a smile. I was prepared to miss out on what was sure to be the party of the year and spend the weekend with two of my favorite people. :-) The trade-off was worth it and I had a GREAT time this weekend.

I left Cortland Friday and returned early evening yesterday. I had every intention to get some things crossed off my list of 101 things this weekend and unfortunately only a few things came up. But I did experience my first jump (not dive,…jump) off a diving board, played my first round of horseshoes, and experienced Janelle’s excitement with going to the drive-in for the first time in her life! All of these things were accompanied by 80 degree weather and clear skies. It.was.amazing. I had one other goal in mind...get rid of my ridiculous tan lines- specifically the blinding white skin that hides under a tank top for 95% of the time – evening during the summer. Even though it is still pretty white, I am proud to say that I do have a tan line from the bottoms of my bikini and I can only hope that there will be many more weekends like this past one so I can attempt to have matching skin by the end of the summer!

My adventure this weekend was capped off with a quick trip to northern Syracuse to go fishing. My friend Doug has offered to be the one to take me on my first fishing adventure. Unfortunately we weren’t able to go yesterday because I don’t have a license and there was too much activity with it being a holiday weekend that it wasn’t worth getting caught! We all know how much of a rebel I am- imagine if my first ticket EVER was for fishing?! So, that item on the list will have to wait until another time when we can go out. We did play some lawn games and dominated in ladder golf though. When I got home from Doug’s, I went to Darci’s to catch up and have a candlelight dinner on the patio :-p (I say candlelight because the bugs were so bad her and Josh dug out their citronella candles to keep them away—do you think that counts as my ‘have dinner by candlelight' goal?! :-p)

What a great weekend…can’t wait to enjoy the beautiful, HOT weather we are supposed to have this week. Although it would be nice to have a pool out at West Campus to jump into if I get too hot!---perhaps I’ll pull some strings and get them to install one :-p

Stay Cool!
