Picture #5

This is what I did for the majority of today- arts and crafts. These little guys are going to be used for RA training and they are 'retro stars' or so the clip art image online has titled them (I copied their idea...shhhh)

I also made Dr. Seuss like spiral decorations that are pretty cool if I do say so myself. They wanted groovy/retro..they're gonna get it!

Picture #4

This picture was taken after we had a 'tornado' come through town last night. Long story short, I spent some time in my bathtub with the shower curtain pulled. People said get away from the windows so I got as far away from them as possible. I was scared. And I'm not afraid to admit it.

No, I.did.not.cry.

A long lost thank you...

 Picture #3

My picture of the day is of a basketball hoop because frankly I miss being a kid and playing hoops with my dad. We used to play pig (which was extended to horse...and even sometimes animals with a longer name just so I didn't get out so fast) all the time. When I was in high school, I remember wanting so badly to win. I remember many summers spent at camp- either basketball camp or soccer camp. We never won. We usually had a losing season. And I usually came home disappointed. But when I look back on it, some of my best memories were from my junior and senior basketball seasons...not because of the trophies I won, but because I got to spend them with my dad.

My dad was asked to coach girls varisty basketball my junior year. At first I was hesitant; I feared people would acuse him of playing favorites and cause all sorts of problems. Yeah, there were a few here and there but overall, my dad did a great job. A guy who played basketball recreationally was put in a position to coach a bunch of moody teenage girls and he succeeded. No we didn't win a ton of games, but we had fun. I had fun teaching my dad different drills to do in practice. And even though I would never say it then, I'm saying it now...I loved having my dad as my coach. I never had to worry about my parents being at my games..they always were no matter what, but there's something about your dad sitting on the bench next to you.

On my walk today, I walked past the park nearby and took a picture of the hoop because all of the memories playing ball with my dad flashed before my eyes. I miss those days. My dad and I were selected to play/coach at the Ronald McDonald Exceptional Senior Game my senior year. I was selected to represented our county/league, and my dad was selected because that year they decided to send the coach of the player selected. As I think of it now, I'm proud of my dad for stepping up and taking the coaching position so he could continue to watch me play my game. He could have continued to watch me from the stands, but instead he coached me on the floor. And as I write this I can't even tell you how many times I got so frustrated with him because he used to call me "Ber" or "Berby" when I was playing and it was embarrassing. But ya know what, my dad is the only one that calls me those names and I'm okay with it.

I had no intention of posting a 'serious' post tonight. In fact, I wasn't going to post anything other than a picture tonight. But something about seeing that basketball hoop inspired me to reflect on those days with my dad.

Maybe we all should take a little more time to do things like that...

The average person will spend 20,000 minutes kissing...

Today proved to be a day full of the good and the bad...

The good:

1. I got to see my parents because they came to drop some stuff off that I left at home.

2. I got to catch up with some friends (Ashley, Mark, and Kim)- we put together some stuff for Ashley and Mark's wedding that will be here before we know it! (See picture below)

Side Note: This photo was taken in attempt to give the paper airplanes that will be released at the wedding (after the Mr. and Mrs. are announced) a test run...it took us 5+ attempts to get a picture with all of us+the airplanes+corny smiles and hand gestures to finally come up with this...a wonderful representation of the test run with the airplanes. Can't wait for the wedding day when eyeballs will be scarred. (This picture also marks the 1st of 365 pictures I will take to complete the 365 picture challenge on my 101 list! I plan to post the picture I take everyday-whether I submit a narrative post or not! Stay tuned!)

3. I went to Quizno's and experienced my first ever BULLET and Quizno's chicken noodle soup...both delish.

4. I watched Knocked Up! :-)

The not so good:

1. I didn't feel too hot most of the day and into the night :-(

2. Because of that, I had to cancel plans to meet up with other friends :-(

3. And because of that, I layed on the couch and watched My Sister's Keeper (which I've seen many times, but yet still managed to flood the couch with tears)

4. That led to reminiscing and reflecting---> not always a good thing when you're emotional :-p

5. Which ultimately led to a vent sess. with Janelle (not a bad thing) but venting is not always our specialty :-p

BUTTTT in the end I learned 2 very important things:

1. The average person will spend 20,000 minutes kissing --- thank you Dentyne Ice commercial that came on while I was watching Knocked Up :-p

2. "There are powerful things out there that none of us can understand." Thank you quote from My Sister's Keeper.

Until next time...

Cortland, Cortland, Cortland.

You will have to bear(I looked it up, for those of you confused by this saying too- the proper bare/bear is BEAR!) with me, I am new to this blogging world. I have posted to a blog for one semester before now when my friend was studying abroad, but that was just us blabbing about our lives and getting the dirt on everything going on. THIS is a blog designed to welcome the cyber world into my day-to-day life without reservations. I've said it time and time again, someone should make a living out of following me around everyday with a camera- the documentary that could be produced would be priceless.

This marks the beginning of my journey through the next chapter in my life- the chapter that takes me one step closer to adulthood-and the chapter that has brought me back to Cortland to live for the next year or two.

You can find me in the Residence Life and Housing office typing away on my computer nowadays. Being back in Cortland has challenged me to not only move on from what seemed to be 4 of the most exciting and memorable years of my life, but to learn the trade of being a professional and surviving in an office.  Although I am still getting used to the change, I must say that the transition has been a good one. The fact that I have my own little office, equipped with it's very own air conditioner, makes me feel like a grown-up! (I understand that until I can rid my vocabulary of the term grown-up I will never be a true adult...) Anyway, the office is very casual- some might say business casual, but I assure you when they say business they don't mean it. I can even get away with wearing jeans, clean cut jeans! For those of you that are following this and took part in easing my mind about my wardrobe, I have found that most all of my clothes are suitable! That was one of my biggest concerns leading up to my first day- glad that worry has disappeared! All things considered, these past 2 weeks have been great!

And before I sign off for the night, I will let you in on a little secret...

sssshhhh, I created this blog in my office at work, hence "the typing makes me look busy" title :-) We all know I'm not a rebel, I signed up for my account when I got there in the am....but still, the title fits :-p

Stay Fresh!
